Apex Benefits receives 3 new awards recognizing excellence in wellness

Apex Benefits continues to promote the value of health and wellness in the workplace. We recently received three new awards recognizing the strides we have made in supporting and encouraging employee health. These awards affirm our ongoing philosophy:  Wellness isn’t just about healthy bodies. It’s about a healthy mindset, a healthy culture, and creating an environment that contributes to a happier life.

AchieveWELL 5 Star designation

Apex Benefits was awarded the AchieveWELL Five Star designation from the Wellness Council of Indiana, a subsidiary of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Apex was one of 26 organization across the state of Indiana honored during the 2018 Indiana Health and Wellness Summit in September.

The AchieveWELL designation is awarded to organizations that work toward creating a corporate culture where employee health is encouraged and supported through worksite wellness programs. The AchieveWELL framework provides an independent assessment of wellness processes and the designation is divided into three levels: Three Star, Four Star and Five Star. The standards are progressive through the Five Star Award.

Over the past five years, Apex has progressed from Three Star to Four Star status. This is the first year Apex has received the Five Star Award, joining four other companies in achieving this top recognition:

Healthiest Employers of Indiana Award

Apex Benefits received the Healthiest Employers of Indiana award during a September recognition dinner. There were 10 finalists in the 2-99 award category, with Apex placing 3rd overall.

Each company was evaluated in six different categories.

  • Culture & leadership commitment
  • Foundational components
  • Strategic planning
  • Communicating & marketing
  • Programming & interventions
  • Reporting & analysis

Scoring was weighted-based across all questions asked. The cumulative responses were given in the Healthiest Employers Index rubric (1-100).

Healthiest Employers is a corporate wellness awards program that recognizes organizations for proactively shaping the health of their employees. To date, Healthiest Employer has served as a resource to over 8,000 U.S. employers that represent 60 million employees.

American Heart Association – Silver Recognition

Results of the American Heart Association 2018 Workplace Health Achievement Index were recently announced and Apex Benefits achieved Silver level recognition for taking significant steps to build a culture of health in the workplace.

Since 2017, Apex has held the Bronze recognition; this is our first year receiving Silver recognition and is the result of ongoing enhancements in our wellness programs.

The American Heart Association created the Index with its CEO Roundtable members, a leadership collaborative committed to applying evidence-based approaches to improve their employees’ overall health. The Index uses science-based best practices to evaluate the overall quality and comprehensiveness of their workplace health programs.

More than 1000 companies completed the Index assessment in 2018 and, of those companies, 75% received either Gold, Silver, or Bronze recognition.

The American Heart Association has defined best practices for employers to use to build a culture of health for their employees in the workplace. The American Heart Association’s Workplace Health Achievement Index measures the extent to which the company has implemented those workplace health best practices. Companies recognized at the Silver level have achieved an Index score of 130 – 174 out of a maximum 217 points.

The value of caring for employees

Over the years, Apex Benefits has implemented a wide variety of wellness programs, ranging from light-touch educational initiatives, to full scale incentive-based wellness programs. These programs are not only implemented internally at Apex, but also advised to our clients. We cannot overstate the value of empowering, engaging and caring for employees throughout their wellness journey.

These awards would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of wellness team members across our organization, advised by our Population Health team.

Our Population Health team includes a registered nurse, two registered dieticians, and health coaches. These individuals are committed to designing customized wellness programs that meet the unique needs of our clients, as well as our employees. This team plays an important role in helping Apex Benefits achieve its mission: to empower organizations and inspire employees through customized benefit solutions, health-focused engagement and human capital strategies.
